I will be running my first ever Ultra Marathon in Cape Town, to raise funds and awareness for Breast Cancer. The 2oceansmarathon is South Africa's biggest running event and covers a distance of 56km. The race will take place on Saturday 11th April 2020.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women with 1 in 8 being diagnosed in their lifetime. My best friend was diagnosed on August 17th 2019. Like most women (myself included) we forget to check ourselves regularly. In my friends case she found a lump three months after she should have had her annual check up. Within the space of a few days she was at the doctors, within a week having a mammogram and ultrasound and then finally a biopsy a few weeks later. On the 17th August she was told she had breast cancer, by the 16th September it was out of her body. To go through a diagnoses and subsequently a life changing operation and ongoing treatment turns someones world upside down. But with the expertise of doctors, nurses and care teams along with advanced treatments, patients' are becoming survivors. My best friend is one of those women and her strength and resilience throughout the whole process amazes me. I am one proud friend and "still we rise together".
Every Dirhim helps, so lets make a difference and help beat cancer.
Thank you for the support.
