Story

Last year- with your help- we were able to raise over 68,000 AED for our Reconstructive Surgery Programme (RSP) in Amman, Jordan, which has helped heal the bodies and minds of war-wounded patients from Yemen, Palestine, Iraq, and Syria.

The eight-story hospital has 148 beds, an operating theater with three surgery rooms, physiotherapy and psychosocial departments, a microbiology lab, and a new social and recreational space. In addition to orthopedic, maxillofacial and plastic surgery, the RSP provides psychological healthcare, physiotherapy and a safe space to recover, for adults and children who have faced far too much violence.

Most patients require a long period of hospitalization, and many of them need multiple phases of treatment, so we focus on the idea that the hospital is a second home for patients.

Meet Our Patients

Earlier this year, we launched a new multimediag experience that tells the stories of four patients that have undergone years of treatment at the RSP

Hassan, Qatada, Joud, and Abu Wesam , all had their lives turned upside down in an instant, and today they still bear the physical and psychological scars of their wounds.

Bodies at War recounts the stories of the four families whose lives have been scarred by years of war.

COVID-19 Response

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have adapted our operations in Jordan to ensure continuity of care, while creating the possibility to assist the Jordanian authorities with their response to the virus. We have also supported Prince Hamza hospital, their main Covid-19 Treatment Centre with a ventilator and a donation of respiratory kits. We have lastly provided training to the Jordan Medical Association to assist them with their response to the pandemic, along with a donation of masks.

As the borders are currently closed, we have temporarily stopped new admissions to the RSP, but are continuing to provide holistic care to the 170 patients we are currently serving.

The hospital itself has been reorganized to allow for an inflow of COVID-19 patients should the need arise. Because of this, our teams have worked to empty the hospital and we have transferred patients (and their caretakers) to hotels, where we continue to provide for their care and needs.

Your Support

The RSP operates on a budget of more than $ 15 Million annually to manage and maintain all its programs, and the need for quality and sufficient health care in the hospital to support patients’ recovery is ongoing.
