The Fred Hollows Foundation
70AED can restore sight, help us end avoidable blindness
The Fred Hollows Foundation is an international development organization working in more than 25 countries to end avoidable blindness. The Foundation has restored sight to more than 2.5 million people around the world.
4 out of 5 people who are blind don’t need to be.
They are blind because they don’t have access to quality eye health care or they don’t know their condition is preventable or treatable. Nine out of 10 of the world's blind people live in developing countries. When people can’t get help, or don’t realize help is available, they become increasing vulnerable to avoidable blindness and stay entrenched in the cycle of extreme poverty.
The Fred Hollows Foundation works in 25 countries globally to help local communities improve their own eye health systems through training, infrastructure investments and advocacy, to provide life changing surgeries and treatments, to generate new ideas, and advocate for change with the goal of ensuring that nobody is left behind.
The Foundation’s work is inspired by the life and work of Professor Fred Hollows (1929–1993), an Australian eye doctor and humanitarian. Fred Hollows championed the right for all people to have access to high quality and affordable eye care and good health.
